Here we have the latest edition of Otome no Sewing as of November 2017. They’re usually released twice a year, in May and November – which you may already be aware of. So let’s see what they have in this issue! We have a pretty obvious Alice in Wonderland theme going based on the cover. There have been many variants on an “Alice” dress, but this is the first we see paired with two other “character” Lolita dresses – Queen of Hearts, and the White Rabbit.
Alice in Wonderland
Queen of Hearts
This pattern, as well as the White Rabbit and the Wa Lolita styles in this issue uses a base blouse pattern, on page 66 of this issue. Use this for modifying into the Queen of Hearts and White Rabbit variations.
The White Rabbit (Ouji/Dandy style)
The vest pattern base for this coord is in the “Other Patterns” section.

Tutorials for Accessories
As these books are sponsored by Clover in Japan, they often include highlights of Clover products like Yoyo Makers or flower makers. This time, they’ve included a tool or form to create luck knots.
In Japanese it’s called “mizuhiki” – 水引
In Chinese it’s called “Zhōngguó jié” – 中国结
There are plenty of tutorials online that can show you how to do this knotting technique without the Clover product. But I imagine the forms they sell make them easier to do for beginners.
Suggested Materials
Advertisements
Also a common thing you see in these books are ads for various new collections or pieces from popular Lolita brands in Japan. This time they featured Physical Drop. They have numbers next to the models as if to indicate that there is a pattern in the book somewhere for something. I hunted through the book back and front and could not find any patterns numbered 25, 26, or 27. Not sure why they’re numbered.

Thanks for uploading these scans! I own all of the books since 8, but I really value having your scans so I can easily reference what patterns are in them without digging my copies out!
Carol said:
I’m so glad you mentioned that. That’s exactly what made me start this archive in the first place too. Especially for the Gothic Lolita Bibles and the huge variety of patterns they had as well. I’m happy you find this useful!

I have a question. What type of fabric would you recomend for something like the vest portion in the kodona/ouji pattern? I happen to be quite new to sewing and your input would be greatly appreciated ^-^
Carol said:
Oh sure. If you’re talking about the “White Rabbit” style, well looking closely at it, I imagine that the best fabrics would be something like a twill or a gabardine. Something like a lightweight suit fabric. If that makes sense. 🙂

thank you so much!!!!

Thank you for these! I just noticed there are some more patterns on pages 10-11. I’ve scanned these if you’d like them: https://imgur.com/a/Qmmmp

Wow, how did I miss those?! I totally scanned them but forgot to include them in the post. Weird! Thanks for pointing that out. ❤

Would you be willing to upload the patterns for the fur cape, collar, and both pairs of ears? Thank you!
Carol said:
You got it!

Is it possible that you would be willing to make a full scan of this book I’ve been trying to find a used copy that’s not 20,000¥ or higher and I can’t seem to find anything.
Carol said:
Hey there! 🙂
Making a full scan takes a lot of time, but I’m willing to scan the parts you’re most interested in, within reason. I hope you understand! Thanks for visiting my site!
Ren said:
I understand, I used to do classical animation and scanning took a while. For what I’m interested in the most is the heart apron pattern and the directions for it. Realistically I would want an archive of the book so it doesn’t go missing but I understand it takes time. Thank you for offering to help me out.

I would also be very interested in the heart apron!

Hi Carol!
I was wondering if you could provide any help with the patterns, I know you’ve already provided a lot through these photos and scans, but it would be so appreciated.
I’m attempting to translate the instructions for the double ribbon tote bag (the pink one, scans 017-018) but I’m a bit puzzled on the second part of step 4. It looks like the first part is to sew the lining and “mouthpiece”, right sides together. However, the second part of that step looks like it’s inside out from the previous step and pressing the seams; however the “mouthpiece” part is still right side down while the lining is now right side out.
Would you be able to provide any insight on this part?
Thank you so much! ❤
Carol said:
Yes, I think I can help with this a bit. In my experience of putting totes and bags together, it looks like the facing/lining combination (facing is the “mouthpiece”) are put together first — right sides together — with an opening on the side for bagging out (turning out). Sewn around the sides, leaving that opening on one side, you put that on the outside of the shell piece, sew around the top, then flip it out through that opening you left in the lining. That opening gets stitched shut, and the lining (now turned out) gets stuffed into the bag.
I need to make a bag or some kind of accessory for the dress I recently made on stream. Perhaps I could make this one on stream to demonstrate it.
Holly said:
Ah, that helps! I think I still need to think through that haha but I’ll look at it a little closer to see if I can get it. I didn’t catch the turning out step at all, so I’ll look at it again.
If you would make it on stream, it would be so lovely! ❤ I feel like there’s so little shown of personal projects made from the OnS books. Of course, I don’t think that I’m at that level at all to share myself yet, but I would truly appreciate it and I am sure it will be helpful to others as well (:

Hi Carol! This is late, but I finally figured out that step! I was misreading the diagram for sure … now it makes sense. Thank you so much for the help! I do have one more question if you would be so kind to help out again. It seems like the channel for the outer ribbon isn’t sewn until step 6, in which it’s sewn through both the lining and the outer fabric layers. Is that right? That part’s a little difficult to translate for me…
Carol said:
Yes, that sounds right. I’ve made small drawstring bags before where a casing is put in by sewing a channel through the lining and shell in one of the last steps. You’re doing great!

Is there any chance that you’d be able to upload the patterns for the gothic ouji pants and hat? Looks like they’re labelled 22(78), 23(80) or 24(79) and based on the white rabbit outfit. Thank you for creating such a wonderful resource!

I am so excited to have found your site! I am costuming our community ballet of Alice in Wonderland and this is exactly the look I am going for! Thank you so much for doing all this work. Would it be possible to upload the white rabbit vest and hat pattern! ❤
Carol said:
Hi Nicole! I think someone else also requested the vest pattern, so here’s that one. The hat doesn’t have a diagram and is only available on the pattern sheet itself, though I’ll include the instructions if you wanted to draft it anyway.

Could you scan the drafting pages for the ouji vest if you have the time? Thank you!
Carol said:
Ooh good choice! I actually made this one recently too. Definitely see if you can use good interfacing. Shapeflex is a good choice, and I actually used a canvas for the collar. I actually used buckram for the back collar, and it stands up real nice.

Hi Kaitlyn! Here’s a full PDF of the diagram and instructions. I guess I had uploaded diagrams only before I got wise and started including the instructions too, because I shouldn’t I? ^^ Better late than never!

Hi again. I thought this pattern looked familiar, as if I had worked on it before. Turns out I was right. I’ll go ahead and share this free pattern here for you. It’s one of the free patterns for my patreon members. I think it’s safe to share this one.

What an amazing resource! Do you happen to have the Rabbit Ear Headband instructions/pattern? (on pg 20) Thanks! 🙂
Carol said:
I’m so glad you find it useful! Here’s the Rabbit Ear Headband pattern that you requested. The shape for the ears should be in the previous PDF posted. 🙂
Starry said:
Thank-you so much!!!
Unfortunately, the above PDF looks like it just has the drafting instructions for the lop ears. The instructions on the headband say that the pattern is for the Ear is in appendix A & the inner ear is in appendix B, but I could be mistaken, so please forgive me if that is the case.
The rest of the patterns needed for the ribbons & headband cover have measurements for drafting in the PDF instruction for the headband that you shared. ❤
Carol said:
You are correct. I see it now. They are different shapes. The ears for this one were on the pattern sheet. I went ahead and traced it. I think you can get the right size by printing it at 100% scale. Hopefully. I worry about the accuracy of size for direct scans of pattern pieces.

Do you have the patterns for the Queen of Hearts set? (The blouse, collar, OP, and headband) Thanks~❤️
